We were able to celebrate the twins birthday in California at Grandma and Grandpa Spendlove's house. Even after all the excitement of Christmas that we just had, it was nice to see them still so excited about their birthday.

Love that Mathew just when for it face and all and that Rachel was very dainty about the whole thing. Nothing like giving your babies their own cake to dive into.

Wow, can they really be 8 years old already. This is a big year for them and us.
They will be getting baptized on February 14 and we are so proud of them.

Sleeping Pictures
It is tradition to take the kids pictures the night before their birthday. I also do it the night before they start a new school year. My dad used to take pictures of us all the time when we were sleeping. I think it is because that was the only time life was slow enough for him to remember he had a camera to use.
Yes, this is the last picture of Matthew and Rachel as 7 year olds.
Visits to Great Grandma's
We were able to make a few visits to Great Grandma's house. I love going to her house. The smell alone brings back so many wonderful memories. I lived with her and my Grandpa for 3 years right out of high school and before my mission and feel at home every time I visit. I hope my children get to visit enough also to be able to recognize the smell and feel Grandma's love.
We went for a pre-Christmas dinner, again on the twins birthday and again just for fun to visit Tyler (we were sorry to miss his wife and little girl who were sick). Of course it is always fun visiting with family. And we always appreciate everyone stopping their busy lives to spend time with us. We only wish we could do it more often.

Rose Bowl Parade Float Display-Pasadena, CA
I was so excited to be able to take my family to this. I really wanted to see the actual parade, but you almost have to camp out the night before and well we all weren't up for that challenge. It turns out Steve and I probably should have just taken the girls. We would have had a great time together. The boys were not thrilled about this at all. The floats were amazing and beautiful. We even watched a film on how they are built. It is a year long process with a lot of volunteers. What a fun tradition for some.

This is probably one reason why the boys weren't having any fun. There were tons of people there. I thought by missing the actual parade, we would miss a lot of the crowd too. Not so!
