Disney On Ice

Steve was able to get Disney On Ice tickets at the Rabobank Arena from OXY in their suite.  We decided to take the two younger kids.  I honestly didn't think that Jacob would sit through it but he loved it and so did Lauren.  Us girls loved watching all the Disney princesses skate with their princes.  However, Lauren said her favorite part was getting a snow cone in a Mickey Mouse cup.  Thanks Dad for the great date night.

Matthew and Track 2012

This was Matthews first time experiencing a track meet.  He did great.  I didn't know he had it in him to run 3 miles.  He did the three mile run, the 100 yard hurdles, 100 yard dash and the long jump.  For his first time he did great and was able to go to the final track meet for his long run.  I am thinking this won't be the last time we see him on a track.

Spring Break: Schuring Fun

Spring Break should be celebrated with a pool. Thank goodness Aunt Lisa found one for us, inside. Remember it had been snowing. My camera battery was dying and I was trying so hard to get some cute pictures of these two. Although it can't be too difficult. What little kid doesn't like the water? Everyone had a good time.

She doesn't start Kindergarten until 11:30 so we have our mornings together which has been nice. This is what she did one those mornings. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Lauren's Swimming

July 4th 2009 will always be remembered as the day Lauren started swimming all by herself. After a few lessons from Emily F., the big swim team ordeal and just a few more attempts at trying to get her to swim; she just did it all by herself in the Turner's pool. Here is proof.

I need a Vacation!

"I Need a Vacation" is actually a musical by the RRE Second Graders. We have been listening to the the songs in this musical for the last few months as Rachel and Matthew have been singing them around the house.

Matthew was chosen to play a lead part as Tourist #2. This required him to be at school 30 minutes earlier two times a week for the last month or so. He did well to get up early and be ready. He was excited and it was worth it. He did a wonderful job. His class also sang "Gone Fishin". He did say afterwards that he didn't like that. I think being in front of all those people made him a little nervous.

Rachel's class sang I'm Goin' to Wonderland". The kids said it should have been Disneyland, but they weren't aloud to say Disneyland, so Wonderland it is. Rachel did a great job too. She was all smiles while she sang and did her routine perfectly.

I came to the early show to take pictures and to see where they were on stage so I knew where to bring the family to sit that night and so I could take video. We had to scrounge for seats but were able to to get pretty close.

AND we also had company come. The Brunson family came to watch the performance. This really meant a lot to ALL of us and they even gave up Astros vs. Dodgers tickets to come. WOW! You guys are the best!!!

The musical was great and we celebrated afterwards with Blue Bell Ice Cream Sandwiches.

5th Grade Choir Spring Show

Here is our Choir Boy. 5th grade choir is officially over. Yeah! That means no more early morning practices. I think it was a great experience for Ethan and he did a great job. He never complained and I think he kind of liked it or was it just the cute girl he got to sit next to? Anyway, we were able to attend his Spring Show. He asked that I make sure to record three of his favorite songs, Splish Splash, Contamos & Chocolate. They had some really cute . choreography and Ethan had some really good rhythm.

The Pinewood Derby Cars are complete, the boys have tuned them up and it's time to race!

Here's Ethan after his first run. He won the first heat with his "Black Beauty."

Matthew also won his first heat - with his car dubbed the "hot, hotter and hottest" by the judges.

We have a great Scout leader, Robert Frame, and he always does a fantastic job running the races. The track is surrounded by police tape and only the boys racing, and the timing officials are allowed inside.

Ethan's Black Beauty was the most unique design there that evening. This was Ethan's last official Pinewood Derby Race, as he'll be in Boy Scouts next year. Here he is posing with his three cars, oldest to newest from the outside in.

Road Trip to California & Visit with Aunt Rebecca

I have to say that our road trip to California wasn't at all like I was preparing myself for. The kids were wonderful. Yet, another Christmas Miracle. I brought a box full of all kinds of activities and only had to resort to it maybe two times. They were quite the troopers and so was Steve. He drove most of the way, okay pretty much all of the way. I only drove for about 4 or 5 hours in the middle of the night. We got to Rebecca's house in Mesa, I think, around 10:00am. Steve was able to take a little nap while Rebecca took the kids to the park.


We were glad we weren't going the other way.

The kids kept asking me to take pictures of the mountains. It is like they have never seen them before.

Rebecca was the hostess with the mostess. We loved being able to visit her and to check our her very cute house. Lauren and Aunt Rebecca made us dinner and we also learned a new game, but I can't remember what it's called, help Rebecca! The kids loved it. And all you need are a few dice and paper for everyone and one pencil to share.
We met some of her friends and we went to the temple grounds to see all the Christmas lights and beautiful nativity scenes. We also went to her family ward for church on Sunday and they had a wonderful musical presentation for Christmas, that really helped set the tone for Christmas. Yet, another Christmas miracle.





Just a side note: It was the same ward that Brooke White's family attends. You know the Mormon girl on American Idol. She was my favorite and made it to the top five. Here is one of my favorites of her. "I am I said."


Sorry, I had another favorite. I couldn't find it at first but here it is "Teach Your Children Well."



Okay, back from that side note.

We were also able to visit one of my friends from high school while we were in Mesa, Beth and her family. My kids still talk about the house with the lemons & the dog & the pool. Beth's husband, Stacey was so kind to let the kids pick the lemons and then helped them make lemonade, while Beth and I caught up.

Thanks for a great time Rebecca. We were only there for a little over 24 hours before we finished our trek to California.
