Rachel's girl scout troop all dressed up in cute matching shirts and headbands and went to sing at a nursing home. Here are the early birds, practicing? or just being girlie girls?

Girl Scout Camp

This is the only picture I have of Rachel at Girls Scout Camp. I am still hoping to get some more from her leader. But before it gets too far gone, I need to post it. There is nothing more fun than being at an all girls camp. Rachel was in heaven. She was able to do canoeing, archery and a lot of crafts.

End of Year Girls Scout Party

This has been a great experience for Rachel to be a part of this girl scout troop. She has made some great friends and had lots of fun. They had a nice party at the pool with pizza and shakes. Jennifer, one of the leaders & my next door neighbor, sewed on all the girls patches on their sashes that they have earned throughout the year for them and presented it to them at the party along with the awards they earned for selling cookies. Rachel was one of the top sellers, thanks to Ms. Jennifer for taking her out to sell, sell, sell. We also appreciated her other leaders, Amy Tyre and her mom, who the girls called Grandma Peach. Miniature Horses + Girl Scouts and then Mighty Might

The Girl Scouts of troop #17268 went on a field trip to the Paloma Trail Miniature Horse Ranch where they were able to learn how to groom their very own horse and then show them.

This is Rachel meeting her horse for the day for the very first time.

They learned the different techniques and tools you use when grooming.

Rachel received the 2nd place ribbon for her great job at grooming her horse. Then they took them for a walk, a trot and through an obstacle course.


I was lucky enough to be able to go on this field trip, because one of the leaders wasn't able to. I would have totally loved this as an 8 year old.

When I was 12, after lots and lots of begging, my parents finally gave me a horse for my birthday. Her name was Mighty Might. She was part Appaloosa and Welch pony. So she wasn't very big, but she needed to be broken. So all I could really do with her was feed and groom her. We had a friend try and break her a few times but it wasn't enough. And so the excitement of having a horse wore off. Which meant that if I didn't take better care of her, my parents were going to have to sell her. They did, and that was the end of Mighty Might and my dreams of having my very own horse. Maybe someday I can live that dream again through my own children and another horse?

Girl Scout Field Trip to L'Aglio

I was able to go on a Girl Scout Field Trip. We went to L'Aglio. It is just a cute little gift shop for chefs and entertainers. And they had a little cooking class in the back for the girls.

They made "Brownie" Vegetable Soup.

1/2 cup rice
1 cup of water
1 cup celery
1 cup carrots
1 cup yellow squash
1 cup of kidney beans
4 cups of broth

Put the rice and water in a large pot. Heat and Stir.

Cut the vegetables into bite size pieces. Try to keep the pieces the same size.

When rice is soft add the vegetables, beans & broth.

Heat until the soup is hot.

All the girls did good using a knife and cleaning up after themselves. And everyone loved the soup except for Rachel. She ate most of it, but I think it was because all the other girls were going back for seconds and thirds. I even got to try some and had seconds.

Okay, everyone loves girl scout cookies. And since I haven't taken Rachel out selling cookies, blogging about it is the next best thing. She has been begging everyday to go selling. Thin Mints: The most enduring and universally familiar Girl Scout cookie. These round, mint-flavored cookies covered with dark chocolate perennially sell the most boxes of any cookie. Thin Mints have never changed their name. Little Brownie Bakers and ABC Bakers both make Thin Mints.

Samoas® or Caramel deLites®: These are round doughnut-shaped cookies about two inches in diameter with a hole in the center, covered in caramel and toasted coconut, and then striped with chocolate. Samoas® are made by Little Brownie Bakers. The ABC version is called Caramel deLites®.

Daisy Go Rounds™: Reduced Fat Daisy Go Rounds™ make it easy to snack by doing the calorie counting for you! Each carton contains five ready-to-grab-and-go snack packs full of crispy cinnamon flowers blooming with flavor in every bite; they are made by ABC Bakers.

Thanks-A-Lot™: A shortbread cookie with a layer of fudge on the bottom and the words "Thank You" in English, French, Chinese, Swahili or Spanish embossed on the top. Thanks-A-Lots™ have been made by ABC Bakers since 2006 and were preceded by a similar cookie called the Animal Treasure.

Tagalongs® or Peanut Butter Patties®: These are round cookies with a layer of peanut butter on top, and covered in chocolate. These cookies come in a red box. Little Brownie Bakers calls them Tagalongs®; ABC Bakers call them Peanut Butter Patties®.

A total Girl Scout

Rachel has been wanting to do girl scouts for a while now. Our neighbor, one of her good friends Isabel, planted the girl scout bug. Isabel's mom, Jennifer is a leader this year so we jumped on it. And she has been having a blast. This also means that I have more patches to sew on, I mean iron on.

There are 8 girls all from her school. The other leader is Amy, who has twin girls that Rachel totally loves. Amy's mom, who they call Grandma Peach, is also a leader. It is a great group.

I love watching Rachel interact with other girls. She is so cute. I do hope and pray that she always has good friends that she can have fun with and that treat her well.


This was their first meeting. They learned a few girl scout songs. They even sang Barges. Which brought back some good YW girls camp memories.

They meet every other week and so their next meeting was at Boli Brothers Pizza, right before Halloween. They got to carve pumpkins while they were there. She did a great job.


Their 3rd meeting was like their pledge meeting. They welcomed in all the new girls and acknowledged the ones from last year. You gotta love their hats.
