Kern County Fair
While living in Bakersfield we felt we needed to experience the Kern County Fair. The kids earned free tickets from school for their reading and so off we went. I think we tried it all - walking on water, turkey races, bungie jumping, circus games, talented pigs, BBQ Brisket sandwiches, Corn Dogs, Pro BMX riders, Uncke Kracker (for reals), deep fried Oreos, overpriced souveniers, cows, rabbits, goats, pigs, sheep and chickens. A true American Experience!!!

Hume Lake
We have been looking forward to this camping trip. It was some place new and we heard some wonderful things about. Well, like always we were off to a late start, however, it was a beautiful drive until it started getting dark. As our family is growing, we decided to take two car loads up, so Steve, Ethan and Lauren were in the truck and Matthew, Rachel, Jacob and I were in the van. This is all I remember about the drive up - "This city .... is my city and love it. Yes, I love it. I was born and raised here, I got it made here and if I had my way I'm gonna stay here for life......" I don't know how many times we sang this song. Though it doesn't matter because we had fun doing it.
So, yes we barely found our way to our campsite in the dark. We cooked a Girl Scout Stew in the dutch oven, which was ok. It filled our tummies so we could get the rest of our camp set up. Oh, wait! What is there to set up? Yep, we forgot the tent. Actually, just the poles to the tent. We did have Ethan's 2 man tent and the truck and van we could use. So, Ethan and Lauren slept in the tent. Well, Lauren started out sleeping in the tent, she ended up in the van with Matthew, Jacob & me. And Steve and Rachel draped a tarp of the bed of the truck and slept there. Steve had cot he used. What is camping without a few adventures anyway, right?
Morning was a wonderful surprise. It was beautiful! We had driven up into the mountains just to drive back down into a gorgeous valley with lots of tall trees and a small quiet lake.
We did some bike riding, canoeing, fishing, horse shoes, lounging, cooking, eating, napping, duck feeding and scavenger hunting.
It was a great camping trip! We will come back to Hume Lake.
{One thing I liked about this lake is that there wasn't any alligators.)
